Many fans of the BioShock franchise have been left hanging in the dark over recent years. Since the release of BioShock Infinite back in 2013, gamers have been searching high and low as to when we could expect the next installment. 2K Games has remained relatively tight-lipped on the matter, however, a recent report may have uncovered a secret BioShock game that is currently in development.

2K’s Hangar 13, the developer behind Mafia III, apparently has something special in the works. It was mentioned that part of the studio has been working on a top secret project code-named Parkside. That might not mean much, but it appears that Parkside is actually referencing the next BioShock title.

According to the report, “The issue is that Parkside’s not ready for lots of people,” said one person involved. “They’re trying to be really smart about figuring out what the core thing is. They’re careful about not falling into the same problem every studio has, where they have too many people and nothing for them to do.”

Unfortunately, the secrecy has also created somewhat of a divide within the studio. When people from each group would speak with one another, those not participating in Parkside development would receive vague answers from those involved. “If anyone from Hangar 13 tried to strike up a conversation with them, they’d say, ‘Oh, we can’t really talk about it,’” said one person familiar with the studio. “It was all very tight-lipped.”

If a secret BioShock game is currently being developed, we imagine it is not without its issues. The studio handling Parkside has experienced layoffs and the like as of late, so there is no telling what state the project is currently in.
