Rumored Metal Gear Solid 3 Dev References ‘Unannounced Remake’

Metal Gear Solid 3

Though the Metal Gear Solid franchise has laid dormant in the last few years following Hideo Kojima’s departure from Konami, rumors have indicated Snake’s exploits may be coming back in the form of a Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake. As revealed in a recent report from VGC, “multiple sources” have suggested the popular Big Boss-led prequel is currently being remade for modern platforms, with third-party studio Virtuos supposedly heading the project’s development.

While this rumor is still decidedly new, a new wrinkle has recently emerged that may add credibility to the unconfirmed report. Spotted by Twitter user Faizan Shaikh (via VGC), lead programmer at Virtuos Zhiyang Li makes references to an unannounced game on his LinkedIn profile, describing the project as an “action adventure game remake” with “[AAA]-quality level art production” and 4K compatibility. The entry also mentions the unnamed project containing scenes of “set piece destruction” occurring “through the entire game.”

While this latest discovery is far from an official confirmation, several mounting rumors have suggested a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, including a corroborating report from Eurogamer. Sources with the outlet suggest a Snake Eater remake has been on the mind of Konami “for some time,” and the publisher had even pondered the viability of repurposing assets from its groan-inducing MSG3 pachinko machine. However, better minds appear to have prevailed with Virtuos now reportedly at the helm on a more proper remake.

Decades have passed since Metal Gear Solid 3 was playable on modern platforms, with the game last seeing a Nintendo 3DS port in 2012 and compiled into 2011’s Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection for PlayStation 3, making a resurgence very long overdue. In addition to MGS3, the VGC report also mentioned the first two Metal Gear Solid games might also see the remastered treatment ahead of the Snake Eater project’s release. However, little was gleaned about these particular plans.
