Rumored February Nintendo Direct Will Be Bigger Than Last Time

February Nintendo Direct

Following a number of rumors and light trolling, a Nintendo Direct debuted in January but not in the form gamers were expecting. Rather than following a traditional announcement format, the company instead presented a “mini” experience, featuring mostly a quick flurry of gaming trailers. While the result was hardly anything to shake a JoyCon at, some were expecting much greater revelations. Those wanting a bigger experience are in luck if newly rumored February Nintendo Direct details is to be believed.

Speculation has been ablaze since the first event ended, but the most recent rumors come from the Nintendo-themed Twitter account Pablo Suarez. The user states that a full-size Nintendo Direct has indeed been planned and will take place sometime soon. How soon depends on when Nintendo decides to announce the event, which was recently said to arrive either early this week or late next week. The dates of February 5-6 and 12-13 were specifically called out, with the actual Direct being set to follow a day or so later.

The stated reasoning for the back-to-back presentations was due to the new 5.0 Update for the Nintendo Switch, as it brings new features that weren’t ready to go back in January. If true, this potential February Nintendo Direct could focus around the platform’s upcoming paid online service and the games that would take advantage of it. While a few major details were already discussed about the service, gamers would likely appreciate more feature-specific information. What would be a better place than at a bigger Direct event?

With the absence of huge forthcoming titles from last month’s Mini presentation such as Metroid Prime 4 and the unnamed Pokémon Switch game, a new Nintendo Direct could be exactly what’s needed to showcase their upcoming slate. Of course, since this is all speculation, there exists the possibility that this is just an oversized rumor. While this unconfirmed info is undoubtedly exciting, we probably shouldn’t get too hyped until Nintendo actually makes an official announcement.

What do you think? Does this rumored February Nintendo Direct info seem like it could be legitimate, or will we only get details as long as Nintendo allows it?
