RUMOR: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered Receiving Standalone Release
A recent posting from Gamefly may have suggested that there could be a release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered coming soon to consoles. The listing had stated that PlayStation 4 could see the game release as early as June 20th, while Xbox One wouldn’t receive the game until July 20th. For fans of the Call of Duty series, it’s common knowledge that the only way to get the Remastered version of this title right now is to buy the premium edition of Infinite Warfare. Now, with the recent rumor, it seems that customers may be able to get their hands on a standalone copy of the game. Unfortunately, no word has been given from developers to confirm this release and the only source on this possible launch has since been removed from the site.
Currently, checking out the previous Gamefly posting (which had been reported on by CharlieIntel) will bring up a 404 listing, stating the page no longer exists. This could mean one of two things: the possibility of a standalone release for this edition of the game was simply just a rumor, or game developers got wind of the Gamefly posting and had the company take it down. Since there was no official word from Infinity Ward regarding this, it could mean that Gamefly leaked their plans for an official release early, and were forced to take down the listing.
For those who’ve been involved in the gaming industry, it’s common knowledge that leaking any information about games early can result in some unsavory consequences. If this is the case, it’s no surprise that Infinity Ward could have forced Gamefly to remove the Modern Warfare Remastered listing. Again, without official word from the company, there is no way to know just yet.
Fans who are keeping their fingers crossed for a standalone release of this title may have a long wait ahead of them until Infinity Ward and Raven Software address this rumor. Even still, this could mean that Infinity Ward may actually be releasing Modern Warfare Remastered as its own title, and the listing could have been a premature leak. Right now, fans will have to wait until either company addresses this rumor and state whether or not this game will be receiving its solo launch after all.
