Rumor: Minecraft PS4 Cross-Play Will Finally Arrive Soon

For a while now, Minecraft has offered numerous platforms the means to survive together, providing a space for consoles, PC, and mobile devices to congregate with the mutual goal of block-based crafting. However, one notable system has yet to join the pixelated party, with Sony’s PlayStation 4 opting out of any and all cross-play capabilities pretty much from the get-go. Since then, content has been noticeably lacking for the now-legacy version of Minecraft PS4, having repeatedly skipped major title updates enjoyed by Microsoft’s blossoming ‘Bedrock Edition.’

However, it looks like the popular sandbox title may finally introduce cross-play across all current platforms, as a recent leak suggests Minecraft: Bedrock Edition will soon head to PlayStation 4. According to a recent retail listing on Best Buy (via VG247), a Starter Collection for Minecraft appears to have been leaked, indicating PS4 is set to join the Bedrock family very soon. How soon? By the looks of things, fans will only have a few days to wait before it becomes a reality, with a release date listed for December 10th.

Further evidence of the long-fabled Bedrock Edition of Minecraft PS4 arrives in the form of newly-leaked photographs (via McBedrock), each depicting physical versions of the game being delivered to stores ahead of its grand unveiling. This is arguably where the most noteworthy details lie, as the ‘Starter Pack’ appears to feature such content as a free batch of 700 tokens as well as LittleBigPlanet and Greek Mythology texture packs. A logo for Xbox Game Studios is also strikingly apparent, as is the mentioned requirement of a Microsoft account to participate in cross-play.

As of now, this surprising move from Sony has yet to be confirmed in any capacity, relegating this revelation as speculation–albeit, highly-likely speculation–for the time being. With a new announcement-packed State of Play presentation set for the same day as the port’s purported release, one would bet that Minecraft PS4 Bedrock Edition would make its reveal at the event alongside a host of other potential announcements.

Minecraft: Bedrock Edition is available now for Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Xbox One.
