RUMOR: Microsoft Reportedly Looked Into Bringing the Xbox Game Pass to PS4 Following Switch Rumors

Microsoft

Microsoft is set to bring Xbox Live support to different platforms such as the Nintendo Switch and mobile devices, further spreading their cross-platform reach. To further close the gap between consoles the company is also rumored to be bringing the Xbox Game Pass to the Switch. Now it appears that Microsoft has been looking at bringing the Xbox Game Pass to the PS4 as well.

A recent report indicates that Microsoft has been in talks for over a year internally to bring the subscription based gaming service onto the PlayStation platform. Unfortunately these talks don’t appear to have born any fruit as of yet. While it’s possible that in the future the company will fully open their doors to cross-platform play and the cloud gaming services Microsoft is looking to provide, for now it doesn’t appear as though the Xbox Game Pass will be making it’s way to the Sony platform anytime soon, though it’s interesting that it’s a topic of discussion for the two platforms.

Microsoft

Sony has maintained a fairly reserved stance against the idea of any cross-platform play and have only just recently begun to warm up to the idea of closing the gap between consoles. It would be wonderful to see the likes of Xbox exclusives like Halo or the Gears of War franchise becoming available on the PlayStation 4, or even the Nintendo Switch. Unfortunately, the report also indicates that the talks are little more than rumors at this point and as such should be taken with a grain of salt.

Microsoft has mentioned in the past that they want to be something akin to Netflix for games. The further they can expand their reach to other platforms the more they’ll be able to compete with other cloud based gaming services and make this concept a reality.
