GTA Online recently enjoyed the release of the Doomsday Heist; an update tasking players with preventing the destruction of the world. The promise for intense action and entertaining missions has many fans digging in to see what they can discover. Some fans have even taken to data mining the update and unearthed a Red Dead Redemption 2 quest that ends in a little treasure for both games. The Red Dead Redemption 2 quest adds the theme of the game to GTA Online. According to files found there is a texture called “dead hick” that appears to lose his clothes in various stages. A “Boles Overland Stagecoach Co.” treasure chest was also discovered, referencing a company from Red Dead 2 screenshots.

The chest found in the Red Dead Redemption 2 quest includes a gold-plated double-action revolver that players can use. On top of this, a challenge is opened up called “Double Action Revolver Head Shot Challenge,” which seems pretty self-explanatory. Successful completion of the challenge grants players cash in the game and an exclusive weapon variation for Red Dead 2.

Some fans are concerned that the Red Dead Redemption 2 quest means that both games will share the same kind of online experience, including heavy microtransactions. Ultimately fans will have to wait and see how it turns out for online play. With Rockstar planning to dial back the updates for GTA Online after Red Dead’s release, they may be looking to pick up their losses in the new title. Red Dead Redemption 2 arrives on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2018.
