Rainbow Six Siege Removing Highly Disputed Map From Ranked Playlist

Developer Ubisoft will be making a cut pretty soon based on feedback received from the community. Likely after a long discussion, the team will be removing a highly disputed map from the ranked playlist on Rainbow Six Siege. First introduced during the Operation White Noise expansion, Tower is located in Seoul, South Korea in both PvP and PvE matches and it’s all a matter of balance. While there are several reasons at play, Tower is being removed due to the general design of the map making the climb up ranks notoriously difficult.

In addition to the wildcards of playing with random players, it can become even more frustrating. So here’s exactly why Ubisoft decided to go away with it from the ranked playlist once and for all:

Removal of Tower Map from Rainbow Six Siege Ranked Playlist

  • Tower’s overall balance is not where we want it to be for a Ranked playlist.
  • Due to the size of the map, roamers have an unfair advantage as it takes a significant amount of time to drone and clear the map.
  • Our Level Design team direction lends itself to more vertical gameplay.
  • Tower does not include the competitive design learnings that we have applied to other maps, such as the buffed Clubhouse and Villa.
  • Many areas are too dark for optimal performance.
  • Difficult to play in a group that does not work together regularly.
  • There are now 11 maps in the Ranked map rotation: Bank, Clubhouse, Oregon, Kafe, Consulate, Chalet, Border, Coastline, Skyscraper, Theme Park, and Villa.

Of course, there’s been a humorous response to the Tower map being removed on the sub-Reddit thread in relation to current events. Since the summit cancellation between the United States president, Donald Trump, and leader of North Korea, Kim Jung Un, some users took this opportunity to poke fun around the entire incident with such creative headlines as “South Korean Terrorist Attack Ends After 3 Months” and “Trump-Kim Summit To Be Hosted On Tower Now That It’s Vacant? Find Out at 11” and so on. Check out some of the cheeky and hilarious responses here and other feedback regarding the upcoming change.

The changes to Rainbow Six Siege will take effect beginning year 3 season 2, which is the commencement of Operation Para Bellum. What do you think of this major change to the ranked playlist?
