PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is still testing and building their latest map Sanhok. Each new iteration introduces changes to the layout, topography, and overall details of the upcoming area. The latest change to the PUBG map has had Reddit in a tizzy over what a certain addition could mean.

Players started finding golden chests on the PUBG map that were not there last time. The first among them to post, Redditor “godlyfury”, noticed a chest nestled near some rock while on the go with their squad. Other players began sharing their finds as well, detailing locations and theorizing about what it might mean.

It was quickly discovered that there is no way to interact with the chests, leading some to believe that PUBG may be taking a bit of a playful jab at Fortnite. Fortnite maps are scattered with golden chests that reward players with gear when opened. Given that fans have noticed the map Sanhok is similar in many ways to Fortnite, the odds that the chests are just a joke acknowledging the fact are pretty good.

The PUBG Sanhok map is a small 4×4 grid, comparatively smaller than their usual maps. Coupled with the jungle setting, this makes for an action-packed chaotic space. The developers may comment later on the chests, but for now, it remains a mystery.
