Psychonauts 2 Delayed Into The Next Year (VIDEO)
Psychonauts was released back in 2005 and though it received quite a lot of praise from critics, ultimately it was considered a commercial failure. Later however the title gained a cult following, and fans have been anxiously awaiting a sequel ever since. After a number of setbacks Double Fine was able to make headway into the production of a sequel and had planned for a 2019 release date. Unfortunately, now it appears this won’t be the case and Psychonauts 2 has been delayed into the next year.
A recent update on the progress of the title shows off the Double Fine team and their exploits throughout this year’s E3. While the video does share some fun insight into the team’s adventures, the update shares a bit concerning the development of the title:
The team has previously revealed that they’ve partnered up with Xbox Game Studio and will be published as a Microsoft first-party exclusive rather than their former publisher Starbreeze. Thankfully, rather than becoming a Microsoft exclusive title, Psychonauts 2 will still be releasing onto previously announced platforms. Sadly, the update doesn’t bear all good news as the upcoming title has been delayed until next year. The developers are certainly aware that fans will be disappointed but they’re committed to bringing the best product they can and that means fans will just have to give it just a little more time.
There really shouldn’t be too many other noticeable changes for you at all, at least not for a while…with one notable exception: We’re now targeting next year for release. We know it’s always disappointing when you have to wait a bit longer, but we also know that you are an amazing, supportive bunch, who – just like us – want the game to be as good as possible. So we’re hopeful you’ll understand!
Psychonauts 2 is set to be available on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 sometime next year. Let us know your thoughts on the delay on the Psychonauts sequel and more in the comments section below.
