Pokemon Go Players Honor Lost Friend By Catching A Legendary Pokemon
Pokemon Go was a smash hit when it first arrived in the mobile game scene back in 2016. It brought thousands of people out of their homes and into the world to try and catch ’em all. A lot of friendships were made because of this, and the game made it easy to find common ground with strangers who might not have ever met otherwise. That is what happened to Lao Xiao, an elderly man from Taiwan, who met many other Pokemon Go players whilst out catching the adorable creatures.
Sadly his cancer returned and he was hospitalized, meaning the Pokemon fan could no longer play the mobile game. Xiao still really wanted to catch the legendary Pokemon Entei though and it was supposed to be making its way to Taiwan on November 1st, but he didn’t make it. When he passed, his son broke the news to Xiao’s friends.
The Pokemon Go players decided it was up to them to make it happen. The group went to Xiao’s funeral and asked to take his phone so that they could catch Entei. They changed their Pokemon’s names to Xiao’s Honor Guard and Xiao’s Air Force while battling Entei and the group managed to catch him for their friend. It was a beautiful thing to do for someone they probably wouldn’t have met if it weren’t for Pokemon Go.
This isn’t the first heartwarming story to come from the community. One of the best times was when Pokemon Go players would set lures at their local children’s hospitals, so that the kids who couldn’t leave were still able to catch Pokemon. It’s amazing that a community made up of all different walks of life could bond so deeply over a mobile game, but that is what the game is all about.
