Survive a Mysterious and Harsh Alien World in the PlayStation VR Exclusive ‘Farpoint’ (VIDEO)

Sony’s PlayStation VR has had quite a few neat games come out for the immersion device in the few months since its debut. In addition to the numerous fun indie releases, the headset has been collecting a growing handful of high-profile games as well, such as Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Batman: Arkham VR. Developer Impulse Gear’s upcoming PSVR game, Farpoint, looks offer a similarly unique experience with VR on the scale of a modern AAA title. The game’s story trailer, which can be viewed below, shows off an intriguing space-themed adventure filled to the brim with exploration and mystery.

After their ship is sucked into a “rupture” (a.k.a. black hole), a spacefaring science team finds themselves 800,000 light years away from Earth, stranded on a strange alien world. The player assumes the role of one of those survivors alongside the character’s colleagues Eva Tyson, and Dr. Grant Moon. A quick survey of the planet finds the three are not alone and are in the midst of large terrifying beasts that mean to gobble them up. A large part of the gameplay consists of the player fighting against these monsters for survival.

Farpoint‘s unknown horrors put the NPCs Tyson and Moon on opposite sides of an argument, whether or not to set up shop on the alien planet or focus on finding a way back to Earth. This being a video game, the player is caught in the middle of the dispute and presumably must choose a side when the eventual time comes. But before that conflict can progress any further, the trailer’s closing moments reveal an unknown fourth castaway making herself known and asking the question, “Do you know who I am?” If horror movies have taught us anything, it’s that this mysterious woman is quite possibly a murderous shape-shifting alien creature. Or she’s just a fellow human and I’ve just watched The Thing one too many times.

On the whole, Farpoint looks to be a cool science-fiction story with a good amount of monster scares to be had along the way. Curious gamers won’t have too long to get their hands on the game either because Farpoint releases exclusively on the PlayStation VR next month on May 16th.

Are you interested in playing Farpoint when it comes out? If you don’t have one already, does this game make you interested in picking up a PlayStation VR?
