Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis Release Date Revealed (VIDEO)
After nearly a year of waiting, Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis has finally received a release date. SEGA announced the news in a recent website post, confirming the upcoming expanded iteration of the popular MMO is slated to release on June 9th, only a week away at the time of writing. As a result, the imminent launch of New Genesis will see the game’s previously scheduled global maintenance moved forward “about one or two days” later. A new English intro video was released alongside the announcement, which can be viewed below.
Revealed at last year’s Xbox Games Showcase, Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis was established as a top-to-bottom revamp of the traditional PSO2 experience, touting significant overhauls to gameplay and graphics while also staying true to the action-heavy combat and tremendous character customization the series has become known for. Among the various upgrades, New Genesis introduces a slew of new areas, characters, and campaign content not found in the original, with even more to be rolled out in regular future updates.
While this new release is meant to signal a new era for the series, the original Phantasy Star Online 2 is assured to be sticking around following the launch of New Genesis, with SEGA opting to keep fully supporting both versions for the foreseeable future. As of now, Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is only set to launch on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in North America, with Japan getting ports for PC, PlayStation 4, and a cloud version on PC and Nintendo Switch.
