New Outlast 2 Story Mode Released, Deleted Scenes Included

Outlast 2 Story Mode

Upon catching wind of some gruesome scenes featured in Outlast 2, many places around the world were hesitant to allow the game’s release in their regions. This prompted Red Barrels, the studio behind the horror franchise, to change things up and remove some of those parts. Now that the title has been enjoyed by many over the past year, the developer has announced that they have added a new Outlast 2 Story Mode, and yes, it features a few of those scenes that were axed the first time around.

In a post on the game’s Steam Community page, the Red Barrels team provides details for the addition of the new Outlast 2 Story Mode. “It is still possible to die, but we’ve decreased the number of enemies and have lowered their speed, damage and perception,” they said. The team added that they have made a few changes to the game’s pacing, which will cut down the amount of chases and allow players more time to explore. As for the reinserting of some scenes, this is what they had to say:

Also, we’ve taken the opportunity to reinsert some of the things we had to remove from the original game in order to get an M rating. These changes are not drastic in our opinion and do not impact gameplay, but they had to be made to avoid an Adult Only rating.”

If you haven’t had a chance to play Outlast 2 yet, here’s a bit more about the game:

“Outlast 2 is the sequel to the acclaimed survival horror game Outlast. Set in the same universe as the first game, but with different characters and a different setting, Outlast 2 is a twisted new journey into the depths of the human mind and its dark secrets.

Outlast 2 introduces you to Sullivan Knoth and his followers, who left our wicked world behind to give birth to Temple Gate, a town, deep in the wilderness and hidden from civilization. Knoth and his flock are preparing for the tribulations of the end of times and you’re right in the thick of it.

You are Blake Langermann, a cameraman working with your wife, Lynn. The two of you are investigative journalists willing to take risks and dig deep to uncover the stories no one else will dare touch.

You’re following a trail of clues that started with the seemingly impossible murder of a pregnant woman known only as Jane Doe. The investigation has lead you miles into the Arizona desert, to a darkness so deep that no one could shed light upon it, and a corruption so profound that going mad may be the only sane thing to do.”

For those who have played the title, the new Outlast 2 Story Mode is sure to provide a different experience than the first playthrough, albeit an easier one. Outlast 2 is currently available on Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
