Nintendo Says Switch Online Service Worth The Wait

Nintendo Switch Online Service

It has nearly been a year since the release of Nintendo’s super popular hybrid console and fans are still going crazy about it. With the company seemingly pouring their all into the system, and content continuously arriving for it, it’s hard not to enjoy the experience. However, the Switch Online service has been under wraps and players would really like more information about the upcoming feature. Thankfully, a couple folks from Big N recently answered some questions, stating that what’s to come is “worth the wait.”

In a Q&A session following Nintendo’s most recent financial report, president Tatsumi Kimishima and executive officer Shinya Takahashi fielded a few questions regarding the hot console. One of them happened to be about the highly-anticipated Switch Online service. The pair were asked if anything had been changed due to the feature being delayed and what they intend on doing “to popularize the service.” To this, Kimishima said:

We view the online service as one component of our efforts to diversify how our games are played and to get people to play more of our games. That is why we want to apply substantial resources to the online service, with the thinking that we will devote our energies to making this a for-pay service.

As for how we plan to popularize the service, it is less about the mechanism and more a question of what kinds of products we can offer, and the spread of the service will depend on whether consumers want what we offer. Please give us a bit more time to announce more details about the service. I think that announcement will convey to you how we plan to popularize the service.”

Takahashi added:

We have some ideas about how to make Nintendo Switch Online appealing when it becomes a for-pay service, so I think our next announcement will be worth the wait.”

As to when the next announcement will happen, nothing is known at this time. It could happen at this month’s Nintendo Direct, or it could happen at E3 in June. Until then will patiently await any and all information about the impending Switch Online service. You can read more about the feature right here.
