New Sonic the Hedgehog Games Releasing In 2021
The world of gaming is full of colorful characters, and one of the most well-known mascots from gaming is Sonic the Hedgehog. The speedy blue rodent hit a cultural milestone by having his theatrical film become one of the biggest (and few) box office successes of the year. While his longtime rival Mario recently revealed the new games celebrating his 35th anniversary, it seems that Sega’s mascot will not be far behind in regards to celebrating his 30th anniversary next year in return. Material from Sega uncovered by fans seems to indicate that new Sonic the Hedgehog games are coming next year.
Some fans have noticed new licensing material from the newest edition of the Licensing Source Book Europe. The big focus of the Sonic the Hedgehog page in this book centers around the blue blur’s 30th anniversary, which falls next year. It seems that Sega has big plans to celebrate this momentous occasion, which according to this document will include the following: new Sonic games, digital content, events, major announcements and a tailored licensing programme.
The material does not state specifically how many new Sonic games will release next year or what types of games these new titles will embody. The last big console Sonic game to be released was Team Sonic Racing last year, with the most recent core entry in the platforming franchise being Sonic Forces back in 2017. No Sonic games have been officially announced by Sega for next year, and it certainly is possible that these games may be far behind in development due to the coronavirus pandemic, which may push up the release dates for the games. Still, it’s good to know that Sega hasn’t forgotten the speedy Hedgehog that helped make the company what they are today. These 30 years really did gotta go fast.
