New LEGO Star Wars Game Reportedly In Development
Star Wars Celebration 2019 has come to an end, after several days of festivities for the beloved sci-fi cultural obsession. The big event in Chicago brought the first official looks at Star Wars Episode IX and The Mandalorian television show. There were plenty of reveals on the gaming side, with new footage for the new Jedi: Fallen Order game, and the Vader Immortal VR series. One beloved sector of the Star Wars gaming world, the LEGO games, have noticeably been absent for a few years, but now it looks like the LEGO Star Wars series will soon resurface. What’s interesting about this is how the news was delivered.
Star Wars Celebration hosted many interviews on its Star Wars Show Live stage on the show floor at the event this past weekend. One special guest interviewed was Matthew Wood, a Skywalker Sound veteran and voice actor for General Grievous. During his interview, Wood mentions the various Star Wars projects that he is currently working on. Among the projects on this list, Wood quickly mentions that he is working on a new LEGO Star Wars game. This is particularly interesting given that neither Lucasfilm nor Warner Bros. Interactive, who publishes the LEGO games, have officially announced any new upcoming entries. Given Wood’s status at Skywalker Sound, the game seems to be a certainty, but it is still odd that the game’s existence would be revealed this way.
The last LEGO Star Wars game that was released focused entirely on stories directly related to The Force Awakens. It is very likely that this new game will be related to the recent Star Wars films that have not yet received the LEGO game treatment, including Rogue One, The Last Jedi and/or Solo. Hopefully the game is announced soon so gamers can get ready to go on LEGO stud coin-collecting tirades.
