Marvel and Netflix both showed up with a bounty of goods to this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, including trailers galore, meet and greet’s, announcements, and a number of other delightful treats for those in attendance to enjoy. Among the various things shown, a new trailer for The Defenders was provided for fans to catch a glimpse of what’s to come in the next Marvel/Netflix series. From that video, we saw the titular heroes from each of the previous four series to hit the streaming service teaming up to take down Sigourney Weaver’s menacing Alexandra. However, in the recent Defenders clip that was released, we see the new baddie chatting it up with familiar foe Madame Gao(Wai Ching Ho).

It would seem that something much larger is at hand in the coming freshman season of The Defenders. That, or “the final phase” is something we’re already privy to after seeing prior videos. If you’re not about that spoiler life, you may want to skip to the video – don’t worry, it will be safe after that. If you’ve been keeping up to date with all of the information about the upcoming show, you will know that Elektra has made her return. Having a bad case of amnesia, she is trained to become Alexandra’s personal weapon, but is this what she is talking about with Madame Gao, or is it something far bigger? Those who skipped the video are safe to return to their regularly scheduled reading. We’re used to seeing Madame Gao putting the fear into others, but it is clearly Alexandra who is in charge of this situation. Of course, we have no idea what’s going on between the two, other than the fact that seven months is an unacceptable amount of time in which things need to be completed. Plus, Gao better finish feeding those birds. Something big is coming, but Daredevil, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage are surely going to take care of it when The Defenders hits Netflix on August 18.
