Nathan Fillion Reveals His Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Role – Before it Was Cut
Nathan Fillion took to his Instagram account to show fans his character-within-a-character that was ultimately cut from the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 film. Fans of the Firefly superstar can see him in all of his Simon Williams glory in the image below:
That’s right, Fillion was set up to play Simon Williams, a hero that later became an actor, as he gets into the role as Arkon. Yup. A character-within-a-character. It’s like Inception, but with more sass. Vol. 2’s director James Gunn later took to Twitter to confirm the man behind Mal’s would-have-been role in the upcoming sequel. Gunn also took a moment to clarify exactly what Fillion’s role would haven, given that Williams “Wonder Man” is a lesser known Marvel character:

It’s sad to know that Nathan won’t be officially a part of the cast in the upcoming Guardians film, but like he said in his post: the movie will still be spectacular. Even better, James Gunn had recently revealed that Vol. 3 is officially confirmed and he will once again be taking the helm:
“My love for [the characters] goes deeper than you guys can possibly imagine,” he wrote on Facebook.”I feel they have more adventures to go on and things to learn about themselves and the wonderful and sometimes terrifying universe we all inhabit. And like in both Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, we will work on creating the story that goes beyond what you expect.”
Chris Pratt and the rest of the gang will be hitting theaters when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 arrives May 5th! And in case you don’t want to go alone, there are now officially licensed Guardians build-a-bear buds to hold your hand. With their paw. Stranger things have happened.
