Minecraft Marketplace Will Allow Creative Players to Earn Money
Mojang’s blocky sandbox game Minecraft has been consistently one of the most popular games of recent memory. Its widespread appeal has been attributed to the title’s approachable pixelated look and solid creation-based gameplay. For years, a strong modification community has been and continues to reinvent what began as a simple crafting/survival game. It seems the people in charge have taken notice and are looking to craft a way for creators to earn a bit of money for their trouble. Recently, a Minecraft marketplace has been announced that will let approved creators sell their works to others and receive a portion of the profits.
The new Minecraft marketplace is set to launch this spring with well-known artist Eneija Silverleaf and creative collective Blockworks being among the first to partner with the program. Mobile and PC users will be able to purchase content with the in-game currency Minecraft Coins, which is expected to work similarly to other mobile game currency. Additionally, an Xbox Live account will be required to take part in buying coins.
The upcoming Discovery update will make the fan-content store a reality, along with the plentiful addition of treasure maps, the enchanted ability to walk on water, and the highly-requested option to change players’ bed color from the stock red many have grown accustomed to. The update has no specific release date as of yet, but we here at Don’t Feed the Gamers will let you know when any new details surface.
What of you think of the potential Minecraft marketplace? Will it usher in a new creative boom for the game? Or will it be a fiasco like Steam’s ill-fated paid mods system?
