Minecraft Story Mode Nintendo Switch Version is More Expensive Than Other Console Versions

Minecraft Story Mode Nintendo

One of the more interesting logistical aspects of the Nintendo Switch launch that Nintendo and third-party publishers had to consider was certainly the change to focus on cartridge-based physical games and how it could affect pricing. The tiny game cartridges would allow for easier portability and would improve loading times, but typically cartridges are more expensive to mass produce per unit than disc-based counterparts. Would developers take this extra expense into account with their Switch game releases? Would they justify a higher price considering the duality of each Switch game’s use as both home and portable game? Well, it appears one developer might be using this rationale, as the Minecraft Story Mode Nintendo Switch version’s price has been announced.

The new Amazon pre-order listing for Telltale Game’s Minecraft Story Mode Complete Adventure Edition on Nintendo Switch has gone up, and has confirmed the pricing for it will be $39.99. This is interesting because all other versions of the complete adventure edition of the game on other gaming platforms retails for $29.99, a $10 difference. The Switch version still features the eight episodes as the previously released Complete Adventure edition, with no known additional features save for the portability inherent to the Switch.

As of right now, Telltale has not commented on this pricing for the Switch version of the game. We did recently see possible leaked Switch versions of Telltale Games’ Batman and Guardians of the Galaxy games appear on foreign retailers for prices close to $30 per the exchange rates. We do not yet know the U.S. pricing these games will have, but time will tell if Telltale made the right choice on this one. We will remember that.
