Marvel's Avengers Teases Unworthy Thor Storyline

Just recently, Crystal Dynamics showed off the power of Thor, God of Thunder, in a brand new gameplay trailer for Marvel’s Avengers. Just one of several other gameplay trailers featuring each of the main Avengers in the campaign, Thor’s combat prowess is fully on display as he dominates the enemy, alternating between land and the air thanks to his trusty Mjolnir. Unfortunately, while he may seem like the paragon of perfection, the developer has begun to suggest that the character may have more in common with Chris Hemsworth’s conflicted Thor than we thought.

Crystal Dynamics recently took to Twitter for a brief Q&A with actor Travis Willingham, who plays Thor in the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers game. One of the questions brought up the scene shown in some of the recent trailers that depicted an abandoned Mjolnir, with the fan asking why that might be. According to Willingham, it is because Thor failed his mission and considers himself unworthy.

Based on what we’re seeing above, Thor’s feelings of unworthiness will likely extend itself to the plot in some way shape or form. How much this will drive the actual story remains to be seen, though according to Travis Willingham, it will be no small thing when the God of thunder begins to doubt himself.

Marvel’s Avengers releases for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Google Stadia on May 15, 2020.
