Marvel’s Avengers Delayed, “Will Be Worth The Wait” Says Studio
Now that 2020 is finally upon us, quite a few anticipated games have finally made their way over the horizon and are within sight of release. One of the biggest games expected for this year is Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal’s comic-book title Marvel’s Avengers, it boasting no shortage of character-focused narrative and action-packed gameplay. For months, the epic superhero team-up has been gearing up for a mighty May release, but it now appears fans will be waiting a bit longer before finally assembling for battle.
In a recently-released statement, Crystal Dynamics co-heads Scot Amos and Ron Rosenberg announced a delay for Marvel’s Avengers, making mention of the “difficult decision” to move the game’s release date to September 4th. “Our ambition has always been to deliver the ultimate Avengers gaming experience,” the statement read, “In order to achieve that goal, we have made the difficult decision to move the release date of Marvel’s Avengers to September 4, 2020.”

The devs expressed how much the project means to them on a personal level, calling the project “an honor and a privilege” to work with such “legendary characters” from Marvel. “We know what these Super Heroes mean to us and True Believers around the world,” the post continued. The teams at Crystal Dynamics, while dismayed by the delay, worded a dedication toward “fine tuning and polishing the game” to its highest potential, while also promising fans that the final product “will be worth the wait.”
“When we set out to bring you our vision for Marvel’s Avengers, we committed to delivering an original story-driven campaign, engaging co-op, and compelling content for years to come,” added the statement. “To that end, we will spend this additional development time focusing on fine tuning and polishing the game to the high standards our fans expect and deserve. The worldwide teams working on Marvel’s Avengers sincerely appreciate the support you’ve shown us.”
We thrive on your enthusiasm and feedback and we can’t wait to show you more. We apologize for the delay. We’re confident it will be worth the wait.”
Marvel’s Avengers wasn’t exactly well-received when it was first revealed, with favor growing as the game continued to take shape and its offerings were given a proper showcase. The title’s roster has seen the biggest changes since being announced, with the introduction of the Kamala Khan iteration of Ms. Marvel alongside the main Avengers themselves receiving noticeably more fine-tuned designs. While waiting until September is an undeniable drag, one can only expect the game to progress even further in quality with four additional months added to development.
Marvel’s Avengers will release for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on September 4th.
