Marvel’s Avengers Dev Reveals Which Character Was The Hardest To Work On

Marvel's Avengers

A lot of hype has been surrounding the upcoming Avengers game from Square Enix, Crystal Dynamics, and more, especially from those hoping it can capture the same magic Insomniac did with Marvel’s Spider-Man. That said, there is still some time to go before Marvel’s Avengers arrives, but that is not stopping the developers from talking about the title, including which character was the hardest to work on.

During a recent interview with Prima Games, Crystal Dynamics head Scott Amos mentioned how Black Widow was actually the most challenging character to work on in Marvel’s Avengers. Considering the developer’s previous work on the Tomb Raider series, the team thought Black Widow would be relatively “easy” to create. “But it wasn’t,” Amos said. “We had to re-imagine all of the things about her melee combat system, the kind of weapons and gear that she would use, the kind of technology she would have.”

In an earlier interview with Prima, Amos had also mentioned how it has been a bit challenging to ensure Crystal Dynamics’ version of Black Widow stands out from the character played by Scarlett Johansson in the MCU. Then again, we won’t know for sure how well they have separated the two versions until Marvel’s Avengers arrives next year.

For more on Marvel’s Avengers:

“Marvel’s Avengers begins at A-Day, where Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk, Black Widow, and Thor are unveiling a hi-tech Avengers Headquarters in San Francisco — including the reveal of their own helicarrier powered by an experimental energy source. The celebration turns deadly when a catastrophic accident results in massive devastation. Blamed for the tragedy, the Avengers disband. Five years later, with all Super Heroes outlawed and the world in peril, the only hope is to reassemble Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

“Marvel’s Avengers features a cinematic story, complete with the high-octane action that Crystal Dynamics is known for. Featuring regular content updates, the game will take players on an epic journey delivered over multiple years. This is what’s next for the Avengers.”

Marvel’s Avengers is set to arrive on May 15, 2020 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Keep it tuned to Don’t Feed the Gamers as this story develops, and for other gaming goodness going on right now, check out the following:
