League Of Legends Comics Could Feature Alternate Universe Stories Marvel

League of Legends may be known for its established presence in gaming, but the popular title from Riot Games is also no stranger to the realm of comics, having recently partnered with Marvel to greater showcase the game’s healthy depths of lore. The latest to spring from this collaboration is Ashe: Warmother, a fresh adventure following the game’s titular icy archer.

With the inaugural comic’s release happening just last month, Riot’s head of creative development Greg “Ghostcrawler” Street recently spoke with Dot Esports about League of Legends’ partnership with Marvel and what opportunities could be in store for future stories. Included was the possibility of exploring alternate universes, LoL famously housing multiple parallel timelines that could easily benefit from extended storytelling. On the subject, Street had this to say:

Definitely. We know players want to learn more about these alternate universes and they are fun for us to work in for a few reasons. For example, it’s interesting to see how a particular part of Runeterra manifests in different universes. What does Demacia look like in High Noon? Is there a K/DA Skarner? Okay, probably not.”

Fleshing out the dusty ol’ west of High Noon or the glamorous pop stars of K/DA would surely be a welcome read for many fans, especially as the latter has cultivated its own dedicated fandom in only a few months’ time. Since the fictional foursome of Ahri, Akali, Evelynn, and Kai’Sa first made their tuneful debut, K/DA’s popularity has only continued to climb, the music video for “POP/STARS” recently reaching over 140 million views on YouTube. Hype peaked once more when the song’s success also compelled a miraculous partnership with VR rhythm game Beat Saber.

As for what Marvel is offering for the immediate future, Ashe: Warmother is currently set for a four-issue run beginning with last month’s release and concluding sometime later this year. This first entry titled “League of Legends: Ashe: Warmother Special Edition #1” is out now in comic shops. Those interested in simply playing League of Legends can do so on Mac and PC.
