Official Announcement Of An Animated Super Mario Movie May Be Coming Soon
The idea of a Mario movie has been in the works for quite some time now. The first word of it began circulating in 2014 wherein the company first began seeking partners for an animated movie. Since then, any revealing information regarding plot, partnerships, and progress has been tightly sealed behind Nintendo doors. More recently, it was reported that Nintendo and Universal Studios were in talks, but little else since then.
Speaking with Japanese newspaper, Kyoto Shimbun, regarding the Nintendo Switch’s popularity, Nintendo Japan president, Tatsumi Kimishima, briefly touches on the animated Super Mario movie. In the interview, Kimishima hopes to announce an official partnership announcement soon. If all is successful, the company expects the film to release by the time the Tokyo Olympics take place in 2020.
Other productions studios such as Illumination (Minions, Despicable Me, Sing) have been rumored to be discussing potential partnership opportunities, but as it continues to stay true – nothing is official quite yet. Despite that, Japan has big plans as the Tokyo Olympics approach. There’s Super Mario themed additions coming to Universal Studios Japan (USJ), which should be completed by the 2020.
Furthermore, Hello Kitty and Pikachu became official ambassadors of Osaka, and a permanent Pokemon cafe is coming this Spring 2018. The country is certainly rolling up their sleeves and giving it their all! What do you think about a potential announcement for the Super Mario movie?
