Mario Kart Tour Confirmed By Nintendo
Nintendo has been easing their way into the mobile game business with the advent of Fire Emblem Heroes, Super Mario Run, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp and Miitomo. A new IP making the dash over to mobile was announced today by Nintendo of America on Twitter and fans are pretty excited about the idea. Mario Kart Tour will be the next big mobile app from Nintendo, however details are a bit sparse at the moment.
Mario Kart Tour will obviously be a mobile version of the beloved Mario Kart franchise. One can speculate that ‘Tour’ means players will get to travel around the world to race and possibly even compete against friends and strangers. Unfortunately, Nintendo of America only gave fans this tweet to go by:
The checkered flag has been raised and the finish line is near. A new mobile application is now in development: Mario Kart Tour! #MarioKartTour Releasing in the fiscal year ending in March 2019. pic.twitter.com/8GIyR7ZM4z

Mario Kart Tour will have big shoes to fill, with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe selling nearly 8 million copies on the Nintendo Switch. For those that can’t get the new console, or are looking for a new way to play their favorite game, the mobile app may just fill a need for fans. Unfortunately, the wait is currently over a year before we can expect the opportunity to play.
Mario Kart Tour isn’t the only major Nintendo IP making its way to mobile. A report last year noted that Nintendo was also working on a Legend of Zelda title for mobile devices as well. Ultimately, the push to mobile by developers shows they’re not only catering to fans who may be otherwise alienated from the franchise but also that companies like Nintendo see that there is money to be made on the mobile side of things. Mario Kart Tour will be out sometime before March of 2019.
