Celebrate Mario Day With This Special Google Maps Nintendo Collaboration
Mario is one of the most iconic video game characters of all time, so it’s only fitting that the mustachioed hero gets his own day of celebration, which just so happens to be today, March 10 (abbreviated as Mar10). In order to more properly celebrate Mario Day, Google has teamed up with Nintendo to bring some much-needed flair to Google Maps. Now through the end of next week, those that choose to do so can replace their default blue navigation arrow in Google Maps with Mario riding around on his iconic kart!
The Mario Day celebratory navigation feature is pretty easy to enable. Those interested in doing so will first need to make sure their Google Maps app is updated to the latest version. Once it is, enter in an address you plan on driving to, at which point you will see a “question mark” appear on the screen next to the “directions”. Pressing it will bring up the below option to navigate using a Mario Kart, which will then be used regardless of the means of transportation (walking, driving, etc) until the end of next week.
Wahoo! Now you can navigate the world as Mario in @GoogleMaps to celebrate #MAR10Day! Check out #MarioMaps on Google Maps now for a week. pic.twitter.com/iX3uZMfLrc

In order to celebrate the Mario Google Maps crossover, Google has invited people to share their adventures with Mario by using the hashtag #MarioMaps on both Twitter and Instagram. “But remember, make sure to avoid sharing personal details like your home or work address (seriously, think before you post),” Google said in a blog post. “He’ll be a constant companion wherever you’re driving this week–to work, to school, or the spaghetti house. Just don’t remember to practice safe driving on the road–we don’t encourage throwing bananas or red shells at other drivers in real life”. Well, that’s reassuring. Stay safe everyone, and Let’s-a-go!
