Just Cause 4 Gameplay Reveals Destructive Tornadoes, New Weapons, And More (VIDEO)

Just Cause 4 may be a few months away before it makes landfall, but there’s no lack of anticipation for the next grand entry of the Just Cause franchise. Square Enix and developer Avalanche Studios are excited to reveal a few minutes of gameplay from the world premiere livestream that occurred today on August 20th, and a few interesting features players can expect once they get their hands on it this December.

The intrepid and adventurous Rico Rodriguez makes his entrance with glider and parachute proper before inheriting the Storm Chaser vehicle to pursue a monstrous tornado shredding itself through acres of grassland. The game’s Apex engine boasts real-time physics calculations including the trajectory of spiraling objects lifted by tornadoes, meaning players will have to think on their toes if anything goes awry. The gameplay also shows off new weapon features as Rico tries to destroy the base operations of antagonist group the Black Hand. Check it out below:

This is just a small teaser on what series fans can expect when it comes to the extreme weather simulations and action-packed fun. Rico will have to get tactical on some missions, but the return of his grappling hook and the wide array of weapons and gadgets should help ease the pain. In fact, the grappling hook makes its reprisal with all-new enhancements and functions. It’s even fully customizable to evolve into the “most powerful and creative tool the player has ever had.” That also means disrupting a wind gun that’s keep a tornado from completely obliterating a villain’s camp.

Of course, there’s more to Just Cause 4 than the constant looming threat of tornadoes and destruction, but not all can be revealed before Winter rolls around. There’s a whole world to discover in the fictional country of Solis. Rico continues his pursuit for the truth as he hunts down key figures in the Black Hand and face Gabriela Morales – the “most fierce, capable and unpredictable adversary” he’s yet to encounter.
