Hideo Kojima Thanks Konami for Allowing Him Creative Control Over His Games

Hideo Kojima Thanks

One of the biggest drama stories to come out of the gaming industry in the past few years has been the falling out between Konami and the key creative force behind their popular Metal Gear series, Hideo Kojima. This conflict ultimately led to Kojima’s departing from the company, and various slights from both parties against each other. Now, it appears that the conflict, while keeping Kojima away from Konami to lead his own Kojima Productions studio, the drama has come full circle. New comments from the Metal Gear creator himself in which Hideo Kojima thanks Konami for allowing him creative control over his games.

Metal Gear Solid 5 update

Kojima was recently interviewed with Tokyokezai and spoke about the more positive experiences and aspects he had under the employment of Konami in contrast to his past criticisms of the company. The biggest positive aspect that Kojima acknowledges is the freedom that was given to him by Konami upon pitching to them ideas for new projects.

What I’m grateful Konami for is that when I proposed something I wanted to make, they let me make it. Conversely, I wasn’t bound by them saying, ‘You need to do it like this.’”

Kojima references the process of proposing a game to Konami, describing what resources he would need and the fact that he was given minimal restrictions over the aspirations and visions is what made him the game designer he is today. “It was like that from when I joined to the end. Because of that, I’m the person I am today,” he said.

Now, with his newest project Death Stranding, we will get to see the master charter his own course with not even a small leash this time.
