Heritage Auctions Expecting $50,000 for Rare Pikachu Card
Heritage Auctions has a rare Pikachu Pokemon card up for bidding, one of 39 cards released for an Illustration contest through manga magazine “CoroCoro Comic” in 1998. The hologram trading card is the only card of its kind to say “Illustrator” on it. There are only 10 PSA certified copies known of the 39, and according to the site, there are many counterfeit copies in circulation.
This card, called “Pikachu Illustrator”, was created by artist Atsuko Nishida. The auction will run until November 19th and auction house is expecting to net $50,000 for the rare card.
At the time this article was written, the bid was only at $1,100, with a next minimum bid of $1,200. As news starts to circulate, this will only continue to rise.
This comes with a lot of hype around Pokemon at the moment. Pokemon GO launched their Halloween event around the same time they realized that their production estimates were not enough for the Pokemon GO Plus. November 18th marks the release of Pokemon Sun and Moon, with plenty of excitement around that. There was also a solid gold Pokemon card minted to celebrate 20 years of the card game!
