‘Halo: Gravemind’ Leak Deemed “Fake News” by Executive
With E3 just days away, gamers across the globe are gearing up for the biggest annual news week for gaming. As the events inch closer, leaks seem to be popping up from all over the world pertaining to some of the industry’s biggest franchises and developing studios. Don’t be so sure that every leak is a for sure thing, as can be proven with the latest “leak” of Halo: Gravemind.
A Snapchat image has been circulating the internet as of early June 8th containing what looks to be promotional materials for an unannounced entry into the Halo series. The posters appear to be for a game titled Halo: Gravemind that is supposedly set to release on October 10th of this year. A closer look at the materials shows a Halo 6 logo in the bottom left-hand corner, along with what seems to resemble studio and company credits that are often seen on such marketing materials. The image also shows Creative Assembly as the developer and the 343 Industries logo. Take a look at the image below:
As with most leaks, nothing is confirmed until an official announcement comes from the developers or publishers of the game. Sometimes these leaks turn out to be 100% accurate, while others turn out to be nothing more than an impressive art project. In the case of Gravemind, it would appear that the latter is a more than likely situation.
In response to the image being passed around on social media site Twitter, Halo Franchise Development Director Frank O’Connor tweeted that the supposed leak was “fake news.” O’Connor also used the hashtag #MHGA, which obviously stands for Make Halo Great Again.
Fakey McFakeskins tell me oh, how does your bogus "game leak" grow? With silver bells and photoshopped cockleshells. FAKE NEWS! #MHGA!

While the “leak” may have been shut down, it is a rather impressive poster. At first glance it could very well pass as a legitimate piece of marketing material. Even the Gravemind aspect rings in the ears of Halo fans. In the games, the Gravemind is the hindmost form of the parasitic and malevolent alien species known as The Flood. The image conjured up speculation that this entry could be more of a horror title, which would be nothing new to Alien: Isolation developers, Creative Assembly. Unfortunately, a Halo based horror game may be out of reach, for now anyway.
Do you think that the alleged marketing materials for Halo: Gravemind are convincing? Do you think that may the title is coming and that O’Connor is simply trying to cease the speculations ahead of an E3 announcement? Do you think a horror style Halo game would be worth checking out? Let us know in the comments section below. DFTG will be attending and reporting from this year’s E3, so be sure to follow us on Twitter to catch the hottest news as it drops from the event halls.
