Gears of War 5 PC Version Can Handle Up To 120 FPS, Built From Ground Up

Gears of War 5 PC Version

One of the biggest qualities that PC gamers have been notoriously interested in is the FPS rate of a given PC game. For any big AAA game to be taken seriously by the PC audience, 60 FPS has been the standard and falling short of that standard can make big marks against a game. PC games that do often receive a pass of sorts when faltering in this area is games primarily meant for a console audience. While the Gears of War series has usually been most identified as an Xbox game, the Gears of War 5 PC version is seeking to be taken as seriously as other PC titles.

Wired recently posted an interview with Rod Fergusson, the studio head of Coalition, about Gears of War 5. The game was officially revealed at the Microsoft E3 press conference last week, and it has been confirmed that the game will also be made “from the ground up for PC.” But what about that all important framerate? Well, according to Fergusson, The Coalition has already seemed to have surpassed the standard held by many PC gamers by far. As he states:

You’ll be able to max it to quite high. It’s still reasonably early, but we can usually get to 120fps. It’s obviously going to matter what hardware you’re using to get that—but it’ll be able to scale up that high, [if] the hardware can push it.”

Fergusson does specify that their studio’s aim is always 60 FPS, and has promised that the Xbox One X version of the game will be able to do 60 FPS in 4K. Still, 120 fps is no feat to scoff at, so PC players looking for a high quality experience can certainly find one with Gears 5. As far as the familiarty for the game goes, Fergusson says that “We want to have meaningful changes, but not so much that Gears players go ‘this isn’t the game I wanted’, but with enough change that players go ‘oh, this is new and fresh and I’m excited to play it’.” Hopefully the game lives up to these aspirations and finds the right balance of staying true to the series while delivering something new and original.
