GameStop Reveals PlayStation 5, Next Xbox Could Be Coming Soon

e3 2019

With the life cycle of the current generation of consoles seemingly coming to an end in the relatively near future, talks about the PlayStation 5 and the next Xbox are becoming more frequent. Plenty of people are anticipating some sort of reveal for the next generation of hardware to arrive at some point this year, and according to GameStop, that just might be true.

During a recent earnings call from the retailer, it was disclosed that hardware sales are expected to slow down over the course of 2019. This is due to consumers waiting on an announcement of the next Xbox and PlayStation 5. “With respect to new hardware, as we get closer to the end of the current console cycle for Xbox and PlayStation, we expect demand to decline as some customers choose to wait on the sidelines in anticipation of acquiring the next generation of innovative consoles,” GameStop CFO Rob Lloyd said.

Of course, this isn’t a confirmation that the next generation is beginning soon, but it certainly does indicate that he believes news is on the horizon. We all know that Sony has opted out of this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo, so when they plan on revealing anything is anyone’s guess. Then again, E3 could be the best opportunity for Microsoft to get a leg up over Team Blue.

Naturally, we’ll just have to keep on waiting for any official word from either of these companies to know exactly when we can expect the upcoming generation of hardware.
