One of the most successful horror franchises of all time is making its return, but under a new name: Jigsaw. Over 11 years ago, the horrifying Saw movie franchise began with a psychopath’s mission of testing the gory limits of his test subjects. The so-called “Jigsaw” killer accomplished these tasks through use of overly complicated traps, often ending in the victim’s demise. The murderous mastermind met his own supposed end back in Saw 3, but it seems as though he has returned to exercise his twisted teachings once more. The first Jigsaw trailer can be seen below:

Though the new Jigsaw trailer seems to pack the same bloody punch fans have come to expect from the Saw series, the tone does seem to be a bit lighter than the usually brutal atmosphere. Sarcastic lines like “Nah, that’s not creepy at all,” and the presence of much more impractical traps were a deliberate change made by directors Michael and Peter Spierig to make the experience less of a gross-out affair.

During a recent interview, the duo revealed that the new film would be “more fun” to watch and “not quite as vicious” as previous installments, also hinting at the film’s mysterious, twist-filled plot. We’ll have to see if one of those twists sees the return of Jigsaw himself when the film arrives October 27, 2017.
