Final Fantasy XV Announces Special Final Fantasy XIV Collaboration Quest (VIDEO)

The floodgates have seemingly opened wide today for Final Fantasy XV news, with the recent reveal that game director Hajime Tabata has left Square Enix following the cancellation of most of the previously scheduled ‘season 2’ of FFXV DLC, leaving Episode Ardyn as the sole survivor. Despite that shocking revelation, the world of Eos continues to move on, and Square Enix has announced a special collaboration quest between this world and its MMO, Final Fantasy XIV.

The news comes by way of Gematsu, which reported that a crossover collaboration between the two games will be coming to FFXV via free update on December 12 at 8pm ET in North America, and December 13 in Japan. Beginning with a sidequest called “Adventurer from Another World,” Noctis and friends are tasked with helping a young Miqo’te girl named Y’jhimei with the colossal task of quelling the primal Garuda, who has somehow crossed into the world of Eos. Check out the exciting trailer for the collaboration below:

Once players clear the quest, they will gain access to the following costumes by way of Glamour Prisms, which are appearance altering staples in Final Fantasy XIV:

  • Noctis: “Glamour Prism: Miqo’te”
  • Ignis: “Glamour Prism: Elezen”
  • Gladiolus: “Glamour Prism: Roegadyn”
  • Prompto: “Glamour Prism: Hyur”

Game director Naoki Yoshida had this to say about the upcoming collaboration:

The truth is, this project came about… two years ago. It was right about a few months before the master build for Final Fantasy XV was finalized when I spoke to [director Hajime] Tabata-san and we discussed, “it would be nice to do something together,” since we were both working on Final Fantasy titles of the new generation.

This goes without saying, but we mentioned we want to focus on mastering Final Fantasy XV first, but we agreed that we should build excitement for each other’s titles, since we are all part of the same Final Fantasy franchise. It naturally took us a while, but we were able to release some much-awaited footage, to which I’m relieved.

What kind of adventures will our Y’jhimei have with Noctis and friends in XV‘s realm? We would love for you to please look forward to it. We, the Final Fantasy XIV development team, are providing our full support, from a lore perspective and the scenario, and we have thoroughly reviewed and supervised the content, so I hope everyone will enjoy this crossover.”

Yoshida also mentioned that a potential collaboration between the two games on the Final Fantasy XIV side of things may be coming soon. “Now, Final Fantasy XV will soon be celebrating two years since its initial release.,” he began. “I definitely want to congratulate them, but over these last two years a lot of fans would ask, “When is XIV going to have a XV collaboration!?” Well, we shall see…”

Here I am, talking about all this, so people might already be able to guess, but… I think I’ll leave it at that for today. I’ve been told by the promotional team not to say anything beyond that… In any case, I just wanted to provide my greetings and salutations today. I hope you enjoy this crossover in XV.”

So, it certainly appears that the crossover will work both ways, though we’ll just have to bide our time while Yoshi-P gets things in order on his side of things. In the meantime, Final Fantasy XV players will have their hands full dealing with Garuda when the free update drops on December 12.

Final Fantasy XV is now available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
