Final Fantasy XIII Trilogy Added to Xbox One Backwards Compatible

Yesterday saw the reveal of countless Xbox One-related announcements courtesy of Microsoft’s X018 event. Those interested in the big picture can see our full recap here. One of the many exciting announcements was that Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XIII trilogy is being added to the ever growing list of Xbox One backwards compatible games, which should excite those looking to add a little more Lightning into their lives.

Confirmed during the X018 event, Microsoft announced that Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XIII-2, and Final Fantasy XIII: Lightning Returns are all joining the list of backwards compatible games for the Xbox One. These new titles join the other Final Fantasy games that are already on the list, which are Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy IX, Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster, Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, and World of Final Fantasy Maxima. Unfortunately there is still no word on why Final Fantasy VIII isn’t included, both here and for the Nintendo Switch.

For those unfamiliar, Xbox One backwards compatibility allows players to put their old 360 discs into their Xbox One console. From there, the system will simply update the game and ready it for the player. Those that don’t have their old discs can simply purchase a digital version of the game on the Microsoft Store,

It is great to see Microsoft being so dedicated to building up its backwards compatibility library, as this is currently one of the only ways the company is able to combat Sony’s superior exclusive selection of games for the PlayStation 4. Hopefully each company will learn from each other moving into the next generation of consoles.

The Final Fantasy XIII trilogy will be available as Xbox One backwards compatible titles at some point this week.
