Final Fantasy VII Remake Will "Surpass The Original", According To Square Enix

“There ain’t no gettin’ offa this Final Fantasy VII Remake hype train” is totally something Barret said, we swear. Either way, ever since the upcoming remake of one of the most beloved RPGs of all time was announced last year, fans have been clamoring for any new news related to the game. Unfortunately said news has been rather sparse, with the latest bits of news appearing in Square Enix job listings for the remake. Now, it appears that yet another job listing has been posted that has offered up some new insight into the game.

The new listing – found here – reveals that instead of a simple remake, Square Enix is gunning for a “new creation” of Final Fantasy VII, one that is set to “surpass the original.” Per the posting, creating a remake that is better than the original FF7 is “in a sense more challenging than creating new games,” and that such work “impacts the world as well as growth as a creator.”

Final Fantasy VII Remake Will "Surpass The Original," According To Square Enix

As for the Final Fantasy VII Remake job listing, Square Enix is on the hunt for a Battle Planner, someone that will work on the battle system and design enemies and bosses, while also “building an environment such as setting parameters according to player’s growth.” The fact that Square Enix is looking for a Battle Planner this long past when the remake was announced suggests that the developer isn’t very far into the development cycle, though it is hard to tell with Square Enix. We also learned earlier this year that Cloud had recently gone through a complete redesign, so the status of the game is anyone’s guess. Hopefully the Final Fantasy VII Remake lives up to the prodigious hype, and it does in fact “surpass the original.”

Final Fantasy VII Remake will release at some point in the future for the PlayStation 4.
