Final Fantasy VII Remake's Delay Won't Affect Future Entries

After a decidedly lengthy amount of time since it was originally announced, the Final Fantasy VII Remake is almost upon us, though the title’s five week delay has fans a bit more on edge for what that could mean once the title hits store shelves. That said, while it affected the status of many people’s pre-orders, the delay of the game seemingly won’t have any long-lasting affects on the series as a whole, with Square Enix recently confirming that the delay won’t affect future entries of the remake.

During a recent conference call, Square Enix President Yosuke Matsuda was asked about whether or not the delay could affect future installments of the Final Fantasy VII Remake, to which he simply replied “no, it will not.” Given that the delay was simply so the team could further polish the title this makes sense, as the core of the remake and its graphics engine represent a strong foundation upon which future entries can be build.

With development on the Final Fantasy VII Remake having chiefly been completed, this will allow the team to begin work on the next entries of the series in earnest. There will also likely be significantly less time in between games now that a lot of the initial barriers have been overcome with the upcoming release of the initial title. Here’s hoping the first part of the remake is everything fans have been asking for over the years.

The Final Fantasy VII Remake is slated to release exclusively for the PlayStation 4 on April 10, 2020.
