Final Fantasy Origin ‘Stranger Of Paradise’ Souls-Like Game Revealed (VIDEO)
A few weeks ago we covered a report that Team Ninja was working on a Final Fantasy souls-like spin-off titled Final Fantasy Origin. Said report stated that the game would take place in the world of the original Final Fantasy game, and would feature a similar playstyle to the developer’s Nioh games. These reports appear to have been right on the money, as Square Enix has officially announced Stranger Of Paradise – Final Fantasy Origin.
Towards the end of Square Enix’s Summer Game Fest showcase today, the Japanese publisher revealed the announcement teaser trailer for Stranger of Paradise – Final Fantasy Origin. The game takes place within the Chaos Shrine, the first stop on the Warrior of Light’s journey in the original Final Fantasy game. The three main characters depicted in the trailer are Jack and his allies, Ash and Jed, all of whom “burn with resolve to defeat Chaos as they throw open the gates to the Chaos Shrine,” according to Square Enix. Check out the trailer below:
It’s currently unknown how Stranger of Paradise connects to the events of the original Final Fantasy. It’s possible that given the cyclical nature of the original story, Jack could in fact be the iconic Warrior of Light, with his friends also having been chosen by the Crystal. There were four Warriors of Light in the original story, though, so the absence of what would have been the female white mage could be part of the reason behind their burning resolve to kill Chaos. Either way, this will make for an intriguing addition to the Final Fantasy universe, albeit a dark one.
Stranger of Paradise – Final Fantasy Origin is currently in development for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. A trial version of the game is available on PS5 until June 24th, 2021.
