Fans of the inky shooter exclusive will have something to be excited about with Nintendo Direct featuring Splatoon 2 in their Direct presentation this week. Interested parties will get another look at the weapons, styles, and features of the game. With the look fans got during a previous presentation, it may be hard to imagine what else Nintendo has to show us, but the anticipation is growing regardless.

The game itself launches on July 21st, which is most likely the reason why Nintendo is featuring Splatoon 2 for this Direct. With a single player story mode and the possibility of a 10 console network to compete in local tournaments, fans will have a lot to look forward to. The game will also feature new styles of play and weapons to accompany a wider variety of player preferences.

Fans may also get more news in regards to some of the playability features of the game. It is known that the shooter will support Pro Controller and Joy-Con controllers respectively, as well as being compatible with both handheld and TV modes. With online play in the mix, fans should have plenty of ways to play!

Of concern to some players is the complication of chatting with friends online and while Nintendo has stated that it is not the only solution, the clunky headset has fans a little worried until something better is shown. Reggie Fils-Aime has a different idea, suggesting that using a smartphone may be the better way to go:

We actually think that the phone is going to deliver a better, more robust execution. In terms of the APIs that we can build into an app, the fact that phones are ubiquitous, the fact that it allows us to do much more rapid improvements and updates to the service, that’s why we think a phone execution–and specifically a mobile app execution–is going to be better for the consumer.”

Nintendo Direct is featuring Splatoon 2 on July 6th at 7 am PT, 10 am ET, and 3 pm BST. The presentation will go live on Youtube on Nintendo’s  official channel. Fret not, if the presentation is missed, DFTG will have you covered!
