Fallout 76 Parodies Presidential Alert Test

Fallout 76 Parodies

In just over a month, Fallout 76 will finally be available for players to sink their teeth into (that is except for those who will be participating in the Fallout 76 beta made available for those who pre-ordered the game.) This past week though, all of America experienced a common event which gave echoes of an earlier time in history when warnings of cataclysmic phenomenon were looming. The Presidential Alert System sent a message to American smart devices to test its functionality this week, not unlike the sirens of nuclear scares in the 50s. Fittingly, this recent event was acknowledged in a tweet on Fallout’s official Twitter account.

The account sent the mocking tweet earlier this week to its followers, and starts off by following the format of the Presidential Alert with a twist. Instead, it refers to this notification as an Overseer Alert from Vault 76’s leader. It then follows the rest of the Presidential Alert format with “THIS IS A TEST” in all caps, and saying that it is for the Vault-Tec Emergency Alert System. This refers back to Vault 76, which all Fallout 76 players will emerge from when they start their journey in the new game.

The message then says readers may stay in Vault 76 until November 14th, which is the day that Fallout 76 is released to the public. While thankfully, neither big Alert sent this week led to a real-life nuclear explosion, this was certainly a well-timed interaction with fans on Bethesda’s part that tapped into the cultural zeitgeist. Hopefully the game strikes a similar chord with its audience when it makes its full release next month.

Let’s hope we don’t need Pip-Boys and Power Armor in real life any time soon. What do you guys think about this tweet where Fallout 76 parodies the Presidential Alert?
