The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Is Free TODAY Only

The good folks over at Bethesda are celebrating the 25th anniversary of The Elder Scrolls in the best way possible: by giving away a free game! Going with a bit of a throwback, the iconic Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind is now available for free for today only for PC.

Bethesda made the announcement over on its official website for the 25th anniversary celebration. The festivities begin today and go on through March 31st, with loads of special streams planned with the occasional giveaway and in-game promotion mixed in. So, how do we go about getting Morrowind for free? Here are the instructions courtesy of Bethesda:

1) Create a free Bethesda.net account. If you already have an account, proceed to step two.
2) Log into your account and redeem the code TES25TH-MORROWIND to receive Morrowind on your Bethesda.net account.
3) The game will be applied directly to your Bethesda.net account. If you have not already, please download the launcher here.

Given that Bethesda has outright said that a Morrowind Remaster isn’t going to happen, the original game is still the best way to explore Vvardenfell for those not interested in The Elder Scrolls Online. So, what’s the story about this ‘Morrowind’ game that’s available for free today? For those unfortunate enough to have yet to play the game, here’s the official trailer followed by a brief description from the developer:

“The Lost Prophecies speak of the Incarnate, a reincarnation of the Dunmer hero Nerevar, arriving in Morrowind to rid the land of a dark curse. To fulfill this prophecy, the Emperor sends an unknown and uncertain imperial courier to the island of Vvardenfell. Through a series of dangerous and magical quests, this unknown courier is transformed into one of the Empire’s most enduring heroes.”

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind is now available for PC and Xbox.
