Since its release back in March, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has won extreme popularity with fans everywhere, earning many positive reviews and an impressive 97 scoring on Metacritic. With so many perfect scores and so much excitement for the title, it would be easy to assume that a sequel would be hot on the tail of Breath of the Wild. Unfortunately for fans, a sequel will be a long time coming, as Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma has confirmed that no plans are currently in the works for this Nintendo title.

Knowing that the process to create Breath of the Wild took five years to complete, it makes sense that a sequel might take some time to accomplish. According to an interview with Aonuma, however, no plans for this Zelda follow up have been penned yet.

We have no plans for a future Zelda, we are still far from all this unfortunately for you. Today, I’m at a stage where I’m trying to gather a number of ideas for a sequel, but I cannot do it alone. It’s a lot of work that will have to be done over a long period of time, and we’re still far from having planned anything. Leave us a little time…”

With the recent release of the Master Trials DLC pack and all the post release work that goes into keeping the game at top tier, the development team has a lot on their hands. Even so, while a sequel isn’t exactly on the horizon, given the number of years it can take to develop a game, Zelda fans do have an upcoming DLC pack and plenty of great content for fans to enjoy during the wait!
