Dying Light: Hellraid Won’t Be The Final Chapter Of The Game
One might think that with Dying Light 2 just around the corner that the developers would slowly start winding down development and support for the original Dying Light title. Oddly enough, it seems to be just the opposite, even as the game has already received substantial updates and DLC since releasing 5 years ago. Not only is the new Dying Light: Hellraid set to arrive later this month, but it seems the developers are still preparing plans for the future of the title.
A recent interview with Techland’s Senior PR Manager, Ola Sondej explained a bit about the upcoming expansion, the original title the DLC was birthed from, and Dying Light as a whole. For the purposes of the game, the Dying Light: Hellraid DLC will be a brand new game mode separated by the arcade cabinet that’s been featured in trailers so far. Under the dark fantasy setting of Hellraid, players will be able to slay enemies and explore locations developers envisioned for the currently “on hold” project.
Strangely, however, this may not be the last foray into the world of Dying Light that fans will be getting outside of the sequel. The PR manager states that Techland doesn’t see the Hellraid DLC as the last expansion they hope to bring to the game, confirming there will be further support continuing on into the future. “We don’t think of Dying Light – Hellraid as the final DLC and we plan to continue our support for Dying Light,” Sondej said.
The developer has its teams split up between 3 projects at the moment, according to the PR Manager. One team is dedicated to Dying Light and its post-launch content, another team is continuing work on the upcoming Dying Light 2, and Techland’s unannounced fantasy RPG title also has a team. Sondej also mentioned that there may be a possibility of seeing the standalone Hellraid title in the future, though at the moment the developers at Techland are placing their focus into Dying Light 2.
Never say never, but the game currently remains on hold. Right now we don’t have any plans in terms of working on Hellraid as a standalone title, as we’re fully focused on developing Dying Light 2.”
Dying Light is currently available for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. The upcoming Dying Light: Hellraid DLC is set to arrive on July 23rd of this year.
