Dumbledore Confirmed to Appear in Fantastic Beasts Sequel

Dumbledor

Many fans of the Harry Potter franchise have speculated the possibility of seeing some of our favorite characters from Hogwarts incorporated into the Fantastic Beasts story lines. Thanks to confirmation from director David Yates, we know of at least one such appearance and that news comes with fan-favourite Dumbledore making his Fantastic Beasts debut.

Albus Dumbledore

Following up the Fantastic news of Johnny Depp being cast to co-star in Fantastic Beasts 2, we have now received word that the beloved Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry himself, Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore, will be appearing in the upcoming sequel as well. Casting for Albus Dumbledore is currently underway. Since the time frame for Fantastic Beasts is decades before the events of the Harry Potter story a somewhat younger ‘Dumbledore’ than is needed to reprise the role. Whomever is cast to reprise this role will be third in a line of very talented actors to have portrayed the beloved Headmaster of Hogwarts. The role of Albus Dumbledore started with Richard Harris and then was continued on by Michael Gambon when Harris passed away in 2002.

The exact details of the sequel’s story line are not yet known, other than it “moves deeper into an increasingly dark time for the wizarding world.” That “dark time for the wizarding world” is believed to to a reference to Gallert Grindelwald’s rise to power in the Wizarding World. Grindelwald, as a young man, was friends with Dumbledore (one whom Dumbledore was secretly in love with), before he became a powerful dark wizard later in his life.

Along with the exciting news of Albus Dumbledore being added to the cast of characters for Fantastic Beasts, we have also received confirmation that Newt Scamander, played by Eddie Redmayne, will be returning for the follow up films as well.

In the second movie Dumbledore comes back. He’s got a couple of good scenes with Newt… We’re discussing who would play Dumbledore, any suggestions would be good.
