Duke Nukem Movie Nabs Assassin’s Creed Producer

Duke Nukem Movie

When it was announced earlier this year that John Cena would be taking on the titular role in the Duke Nukem movie, fans expected progress to continue to rise. However, not much has been unveiled about the upcoming film since then.

That said, it has now been revealed by Variety that the Duke Nukem movie has picked up Assassin’s Creed producer Jean-Julien Baronnet to assist in bringing the beloved character to life. While this is a step forward, getting production up and running hasn’t been the smoothest of rides. Gearbox Software was originally working alongside Paramount Studios and Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes to make movie magic, but Paramount has since left the project.

Variety also reported that Gearbox vice president of business development Sean Haren and Baronnet have been getting together with writers over the last several weeks to put together something for the film. It even appears that those involved want to shoot for something that is authentic to the character and franchise as a whole.

“He’s a parody of 1980s action heroes and he’s like Deadpool in terms of being able to break the fourth wall,” said Haren. “We see a lot of humor in his confronting the values of today while trying to save the world.” Baronnet concurred and added, “Duke is exactly the kind of very blunt character that we need in the world today.”

It will certainly be interesting to see how things play out moving forward, but we can’t wait to see what comes of it. There is no information regarding the release of the Duke Nukem movie at this time, but 2019 just might be the year the ball really gets rolling.
