DOOM Eternal Celebrates Final Fantasy VII Remake With Crossover Art

DOOM Eternal Final Fantasy VII Remake

After plenty of explosive fanfare, last month saw the release of DOOM Eternal. and the game (alongside Animal Crossing: New Horizons) has become one of the arguable highlights of 2020 so far. Of course, with the release of the long-awaited Final Fantasy VII Remake, attention has inevitably shifted toward the reimagined Square Enix RPG as it makes its way to launch. Now that the day has arrived, it appears the developers at id Software have also been swept up in the hype, with the studio showing off a stunning new piece of DOOM crossover artwork.

Shown on social media, the official DOOM Twitter account congratulated the team behind Final Fantasy VII Remake, capping off the message with a slick piece of artwork. The image features the DOOM Slayer standing in a hellish realm with his trusty blade The Crucible draped over his back. This post purposefully makes reference to the iconic box art from the original FFVII, which featured a similar scene of Cloud overlooking a looming Midgar. A modern version of the artwork notably returned as the cover for the Remake.

Seeing two developers interact is undeniably exciting, especially when it involves such beloved franchises such as DOOM and Final Fantasy. The over-the-top energy of the classic DOOM games is turned up to eleven in the new DOOM Eternal, a decision that has sat well with new and old fans alike. By the looks of initial reactions, the Final Fantasy VII Remake also appears to deliver the nostalgic goods from the original FFVII.

DOOM Eternal is out now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with a Nintendo Switch version in the works. Final Fantasy VII Remake is out now for PS4, with other platforms expected to happen sometime down the line.
