Digimon Survive Announces Western Release Next Year (VIDEO)

Earlier this week, Bandai Namco Entertainment announced the arrival of Digimon Survive, a strategy RPG game to grace the series once more. Though the franchise continues to live on in Japan, there are few titles that make it to Europe and North America, but it looks like this one will. To celebrate their 20th anniversary, the game will take on more platform availability and arriving to all major platforms including PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch.

Taking a melancholic and introspective approach to storytelling, Digimon Survive sets a different tone than the usual cheerful one it’s known for. This next installment approaches a style closely related to the Zero Escape series, but perhaps with less gruesome details and consequences. Decisions are a central point for Digimon Survive, mixing strategy gameplay with the narrative-driven aspect of the visual novel experience. Check out the latest trailer translated for English speakers:

Nearly identical to the original trailer, the English translation provides more context for those of whom don’t speak Japanese. The music provides to the depressing perspective on the reality for these lost children, and they must seek out solutions to escape. Alongside their monster pals like the iconic Agumon, “death and danger” lies in wait. In other words, the entire premise is the same, but Bandai Namco has taken a realistic approach to the franchise’s story.

They have yet to know the world upon them. They got lost when venturing into the wild and they ended up in a strangely, nostalgic place. There they met mysterious monsters. Little do they know in this world death and danger awaits. To stay alive, decisions have to be made. This is a story of them trying to get out of a bizarre dimension. This is a story of survival.”
