Detective Pikachu Cussing Gives Us More Life Than It Possibly Should

If you weren’t on board with the Detective Pikachu live-action slash animated hybrid film before, there are plenty of those who are now. Based on teasers since the film’s announcement, the community have had divided opinions despite the pervasiveness of the series throughout generations. Not only do our beloved pocket monsters look worlds different than what many imagined, Pikachu can also speak English. Better yet? It’s voiced by Deadpool‘s Ryan Reynolds. In the latest trailer, however, the folks behind the creation of this film take it up another notch, letting Pikachu throw out a cuss word.

Though as mild as the phrase may for some, it is a family-friendly franchise after all.  Suffice to say, however, the Pokemon fanbase is losing their minds over Detective Pikachu ‘s frantic cussing. Here’s what people on Twitter are saying:

In previous trailers and teasers for Detective Pikachu, iconic Pokemon make cameos throughout including Bulbasaur, Mr. Mime, Greninja, and even a eerily creepy Lickitung – the latter of which looks like a mound of raw skin. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder? Either way, our electric mouse pocket monster and his partner Tim Goodman have plenty of work cut out for them. After all, they have to find out the mysterious disappearance of ace private detective Harry Goodman. The official synopsis is as follows:

The story begins when ace detective Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son Tim to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry’s former Pokémon partner, Detective Pikachu: a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth who is a puzzlement even to himself. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to communicate with one another, Tim and Pikachu join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery.

Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City—a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world—they encounter a diverse cast of Pokémon characters and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe.”
